I think your genealogy site is really interesting. I found my Grandmother in the Mosley section - Maud Annie Mozley b.1880 (children of Joseph and Mary (1845-1924). I was actually trying to find out what I could about Rufus and have been delighted to find pictures on the Ancestry website. I would love to hear from any Mosleys (Mozleys) still in the area. My sister and I brought my Mother and Father's ashes back to be buried in the grounds of Aston church. We couldn't believe how beautiful the area is around Aston and Ulley - it must have been wonderful in Grandma's day.

My interest is primarily with the Stenton Family.

You have certain persons listed, Samuel, John etc and at this stage I believe they are my ancestors, with Samuel a direct line. Other names connected with the Stenton Families are Heads,Bottom,Hutchinson,Jenkinson,Milner,Dennis There are obviously others that I have not listed.

If anyone has any info regarding any of this, or if I can help anyone in anyway, then please contact me.
Regards,
Ron Severs.

My great great grandfather was resevoir keeper at Ulley and lived in the house with the water tower for a number of years. I have a photo of him with wife standing outside the house with its built in water tower intact. He was there from some time after 1871 until beyond 1881 but I have no clear dates. His name was John Torr and had come to Yorkshire from Notts. He was married to Mary Ann Snidall who came from Guilthwaite. I was fortunate enough to visit Ulley resevoir as it was being turned into a leisure area and went inside the house before it was renovated. If you know of any sources relevant to the resevoir and its workings please contact.
Hope you find this info. interesting.
An improvement to the site would be a brief detail of your authority. I teach kids in school always to check authenticity and reliability of websites and I could not locate such info easily on yours!

Just browsing and came across someone looking for people who knew James Gagen. I have quite a lot of information on the Gagen family history, if this person wants to contact me.

I wondered if anyone remembers my grandad James Gagen? He lived in Ulley before moving to Brook Cottage, Aughton. My grandmother Hilda (Bacon) and grandad were involved in Aughton Chapel. Grandad worked at Treeton Colliery. I'd love to hear from anyone who remembers him.

I am very keen to know about the Mozleys around Ulley, there are about 25 on the 1901 census. My father Charles Alfred Mozley, his father Charles Alfred and his father William Henry lived in Attercliff cum Darnall. They are decended from Charles Alfred born l835, married at Pitsmoor. Does anyone have any more imformation about the Mozleys? I note there is a farmer Mozley still living in the area, does he know any history of the family?

I have, as of yesterday (10/08/04), found that my SHAW family origins came from ULLEY, the furthest back name that I know being George SHAW (b: c1809) in Ulley, the family moving to the Upperthorpe area of Sheffield sometime after c1842.
Is there anyone out there that has SHAW ancestors from Ulley that would like to get in touch?

It was very interesting to me as I lived in Ulley village until I was 21 year of age and was very happy

If I remember correctly my grandmother married a gentleman named Lyle Baines who was from Ulley. They were married back in the the beginning of WWI. He was killed shortly there after (a few weeks)in Belgium. He was a lieutenant in the Glouchester regiment. My grandmother's maiden name was Kathleen S.Haller from London. Is the Baines family still of the area. Just curious as my grandmother's story was so very sad. She went away to mourn as they did in those days in Africa for a year. So if there are any old curmudgeons who remember I'd be curious to hear from them.

Thanks and many regards to my English cousins,

Hello,

I found this site recently and was good to see the photos! I used to live in Aughton, and spent a lot of time walking around Ulley.
