Milk - from Farm to Doorstep
The present Walker family farm at Brampton and Ulley Beeches. Until this year the milk for the retail round had been bought in from suppliers but now they are a fully self sufficient business with all the bottled milk supplied from the farms own dairy herd.
All the milking and processing is done on the farm premises.
The daily routine is a very busy one. It starts with the first early morning milking at 5 a.m. with a second session in the afternoon at 3 p.m. after which the milk is processed and bottled.
During the production process some of the milk is separated for skimmed milk and cream.
On completion, the finished product is ready for delivery on the following day. The round starts at 2.30 a.m. with deliveries to Thurcroft, Dinnington and surrounding areas.
After processing comes the daily cleansing of both milking shed and processing plant.
At present the milk is bottled in glass - plastic containers will be introduced in the near future.
